Jon Hamm
Sadly, there are very few things Americans can all agree on in 2018. Happily, one of them is this: Jon Hamm is a god, and the rest of us should just count ourselves lucky to be able to gaze upon his chiseled, godlike face through our devices in shows including The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, old episodes of Mad Men, and so forth. And St. Louisans, oh, St. Louisans are the luckiest of all. One, Jon Hamm is from here (he taught at Burroughs, and we'll never let the rest of the country forget it). Two, though now a coastal elite, Jon Hamm was back home over the weekend, and some lucky St. Louisans got to gaze upon his actual, real-life face. And there are photos to prove it.
But first, the facts. Jon Hamm was moderating a sold-out talk with Wilco's Jeff Tweedy, himself from the area (Belleville), about his new memoir, Let's Go (So We Can Get Back), at the Pageant. The book is about Tweedy's childhood, working in a St. Louis record store, as well as the clubs and performances that jump-started his career and the Chicago band Wilco. Jon Hamm is a known fan of the band. He told Esquire in 2014 that his favorite song lyric is from "A Shot in the Arm": “What you once were isn’t what you want to be any more.”
Enough facts. Now, photos.
The appearance started way before The Pageant, when Tweedy went to Euclid Records:
Closer to showtime, excited fans posted photos of their autographed copies of the memoir, included in the ticket price:
This is St. Louis about to lose its collective mind:
Finally—finally—it's Jon Hamm. Tweedy also played three acoustic songs as part of the night:
Jon Hamm even posed with a few lucky fans:
Goodbye, Jon Hamm. Come visit us again soon.
