As I began transitioning my closet from summer this past weekend, I took note of the many pairs of virtually unworn high, high heels in my closet. Some, in fact, were never worn. How tantalizing those towering heels were in the store: elevating stature, elongating legs, and improving posture! But that was while standing in the store and perhaps taking just a few tentative steps. After a night in those puppies, my feet and legs told a vastly different tale.
My hopes were renewed, however, when I spied a pair of Burberry deep-green, T-bar sandals in a picture of Kate Moss during London Fashion Week. I noticed the color first, but I was also seduced by the bareness of the shoes. The front strap seemed low-slung in a way that elongated the “T,” with a not-too-ridiculous heel height. In short, the shoes were sexy and gorgeous—but also looked wearable. Since Moss was wearing them at London Fashion Week, I immediately assumed they were from the spring collection. But, to my surprise, they were from the fall collection. The gorgeous shade of green, one of fall’s most beautiful colors should have been a clue. And while they're a perfect fall shoe, they can easily make the transition through all seasons. (Personally, though, I would put them away for safekeeping for next summer.)
As I perish my old platforms and say Sayonara to sky-high stilettos, I'm cheered by the thought that I've saved my feet and lower back—and can now dream about those gorgeous green sandals.
