Maplewood’s lively tribute to Bastille Day, Let Them Eat Art, returns for its 12th year on Friday, July 14, from 6–11 p.m.
Don't be fooled by the name: Let Them Eat Art is far more than an art fair. The event revolves around art, but it also features live art demonstrations, music, and award-winning food throughout downtown Maplewood.
"While we often have a theme and art is the center of the event, our main goal is to just have a big party for several thousand of our closest friends," says Rachelle L'Ecuyer, Maplewood's director of community development. "We work to create an environment where you can talk to the artist or observe them as they work."
This year, more than 25 artists have designed umbrellas that will be offered for sale, and additional artists will be hosted by local businesses. Guests are encouraged to engage with the artists. There will also be a lineup of more than 25 entertainers and performers, including four music stages.
"There will be everything from chocolate-making to knife-making demonstrations in the craft persons’ shops," adds L'Ecuyer, "and a chance to meet the people who make the products, from soap to leather goods."
Guests can use an interactive Google map created for Let Them Eat Art to locate the event's 30 food and drink vendors. "This is a great way for people to see all that historic downtown Maplewood offers, so they can come back later to shop and dine," says L'Ecuyer.
KSDK’s Show Me St. Louis hosts Heidi Glaus and Dana Dean will kick off the event at 6 p.m. Parking is available in eight area parking lots.
