Maybe it was the long, cold winter, but it seemed pet owners were less inspired to sew ambitious homemade costumes for the Beggin' Pet Parade this year. You saw lots of dogs in tutus and Mardi Gras boas, fewer dressed up as Princess Leia, Power Puff Girls, cowboys, or other specific characters. However, the sun was out and the quite-large crowd in Soulard was as spirited as ever (both marchers with pets as well as petless observers). Parade Marshall Andy Cohen, dressed in a super-warm ski sweater, seemed totally upbeat from his perch on a float, and Barenaked Ladies played after the parade. The Weiner Dog Races, which also followed the parade at 2 p.m., also seemed as competitive and well-attended as ever. Here are some photo highlights from the parade route itself.
