Among St. Louis’ many treasured neighborhoods, De Mun is one of them. The leafy residential neighborhood is situated between Forest Park on the east and Concordia Seminary on the west. Home to some of the loveliest residential apartment buildings in town, the neighborhood features something for everyone, including Kaldi's for coffee, Sasha’s for dinner and drinks, How Sweet is This for the candy-lover, and Dot Dot Dash, quite possibly the smallest boutique in St. Louis, which has long been the go-to shopping destination for girls in-the-know.
Located on one of the most charming of streets in the area, Dot Dot Dash (6334 Rosebury Avenue, 314-862-1962) has undergone a renovation in celebration of its seventh year in business. "The redesign was a result of trying to better meet the needs of our customers who are women of all ages,” says owner Alyson Garland. “We wanted to maximize our tiny square footage for the way people most like to browse through clothing, which is mostly on racks." The new design lends a more sophisticated feel and at 365-square-feet the store seems more spacious than before. In addition to the renovation, Garland has introduced new clothing lines, many of which I was thrilled to see now available in our area, like the yoga line ALO. On the afternoon I stopped by, some wonderful capes and ponchos from Kerisma had just arrived in gorgeous fall colors and plaids; there was a lust-worthy faux leopard print coat; a fitted quilted jacket perfect for tailgating and chic Jackie O style dresses in retro prints by Tyler Boe. As for the aforementioned ALO (short for air, land, ocean) I cannot say enough good things about the leggings, the separates and hoodies, which fit beautifully and are ideal for exercise or for simply looking good while running around town. There is a selection of bohemian jewelry, some from Turkey and Lokai bracelets, which add a hint of cool to any ensemble.
Dot Dot Dash is one of our city’s most well-kept secrets, and gives proof that the very best things do come in small packages.
