Q: I don’t have a huge budget for a fall/winter wardrobe this year. How can I supplement my summer pieces to create a fall wardrobe that doesn’t break the bank?
A: As a new mother, I feel you. Like you, my spending is limited, which means I need to get creative with what I already have in order to look current this fall season. Luckily, with some clever layering, it’s easy to stretch that summer wardrobe into fall and beyond.
For example, a summer shift dress becomes a fall go-to when layered over a button-down blouse and tights.
Or take the trend of the summer, overalls, and layer it up with your favorite fall cardigan and ankle boots.
Even a dressed-up pair of shorts becomes fall-ready when you layer them with tights and add a coordinating blazer.
The main thing to remember is color coordination. Getting wacky with your print mixing or sporting wild colors will only draw attention to your summer pieces. Try a monochromatic look, color blocking, or neutral layers to create a look that’s season-appropriate. Most importantly, have fun!
