Cherokee Street was alive with activity over the weekend. Not only was there the Cinco de Mayo festival on Cherokee Street, but phd Gallery opened a new exhibit on Saturday May 7th as well. The new exhibit "is about showcasing St. Louis talent," explains gallery owner Philip Hitchcock.
Perspectives includes Deanna Chafin's paintings, Dennis DeToye's portraits and Ruth Ann Reese's sculptures. Instead of trying to find an overarching theme for the exhibit, Hitchcock thought "it might be a great idea to showcase three artists in three rooms, because this space really lends itself well to that. It's like three galleries in one."
Each of the artists went to school in the area and now live and work here. Perspectives is on view May 7 through June 11, 2011. Phd Gallery, 2300 Cherokee, 314-664-6644, phdstl.com.
