Now we have WSIE threatening to go all blah on us. Forwarded by a reader:
"From the Facebook group SAVE 88.7 THE JAZZ STATION:
Ok, so here’s the deal: SIUE just got a new chancellor who feels that having a 24-hour Jazz Station is a waste of University money. Instead, he wants to turn 88.7 into an all sports and rock radio station to reach a 'younger' audience. THIS IS BAD!!!
88.7 is the ONLY JAZZ STATION in the St. Louis area. It is also the only way to hear about many live, jazz performances in the St. Louis area. For example, in the weeks before the Greater St. Louis Jazz Festival hosted by UMSL, 88.7 did a great deal of advertising for the festival and concerts. Because of 88.7’s generous publicity, the Anheuser-Busch Hall at the Touhill was nearly sold out on Saturday night. Without this station to spread information about this concert and EVERY UMSL Jazz concert, our audiences would diminish to just our parents and fellow students. 88.7 also keeps the public up to date with almost every other jazz group in St. Louis including SIUE Jazz department, Jazz at the Bistro, Meramac Jazz Band and many other jazz groups.
HELP SAVE THE JAZZ STATION!!!
Please call the chancellor’s office at SIUE and let them know that this station is important to you. If you listen to Jazz regularly or even just occasionally, let them know that there is a “younger” audience interested in Jazz in the St. Louis area.

Okay, broadcasting minor league games is cool with me - I'm all for the underdog, even though I would rather have someone pull off my fingernails with pliers than listen to sports on the radio - but why, why, why do people think that yet another station broadcasting "Take It Easy," or "Bad Moon Rising' is a good idea? May I repeat: THIS IS BAD!!! --Stefene Russell
