One of my fellow Halibeauties, Ann Haubrich, passed this event along by email this morning. Oddly, I don't know Marcel Toussaint, though he seems like a fellow I probably should've crossed paths with, since he is pretty heavily involved in the St. Louis Poetry Center and read at the Contemporary's Playground of the Riduclous. He's also written lyrics for Elsie Parker and the Poor People of Paris and was invited to read at the Club des Poetes in Paris. Here's another interesting tidbit from his bio:
"Marcel Toussaint performed in Army shows in a group who called themselves The Primitives, and won four times, leading up to the semi-final show in Stuggart, Germany with Olivia de Havilland as a judge. The Grand Prize was an appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show. The one competing act, The Damn Yankees won, and did go on to repeat their winning performance on the Ed Sullivan Show. Meanwhile, Marcel Toussaint and his two companions returned to their duties at their respective bases."
Toussaint and other vets will present a Poetry and Variety Show Performance tonight at Jefferson Barracks, performing a program of original poetry read, in most cases, by the authors; the flyer notes that Mr. Toussaint's reading will include a new work "of timely importance." Not sure what that will be, but the wording is intruiging.
