I must say that finding the perfect Valentine’s Day look is a bit like falling in love. You can look forever, and when you find it, you just know. While scouring the Internet for the perfect Valentine’s Day makeup, I completely fell in love with Julianne Hough’s look for last year’s screening of Safe Haven in New York. Soft, romantic and perfectly undone, one glance of Julianne and I knew this would be perfect for both daytime and date night Valentine’s festivities.
Starting with the eyes, apply a black liquid liner with a bit of a cat eye edge. I like Too Faced’s Perfect Eyes Waterproof Eyeliner, it’s both a liquid liner and smudger in-one. Next, choose a soft pastel palette with lightest colors on your lid, and a deeper shade covering the crease of your lid. I like Urban Decay’s Ammo Palatte, it gives you just enough color without coming off as brash. Using your smudger, blend your liner in an outward motion, extending your cat eye. Finish off your look with a thickening mascara, like Dior’s Diorshow Mascera in Rich Black, for the perfect sexy eye.
When it comes to coverage, you want your skin to radiate with a dewy glow, no matter how low the temperature outside may be. Use MAKE UP FOR EVER’s Mat Velvet+ concealer for a velvet finish that won’t leave your skin oily, but flawless and glowing. Try Trish McEvoy’s blush in Peony Pink to get Julianne’s signature pink cheeks.
Make your lips kissably soft with ChapStick Hydration Lock moisturizing lip balm. Add color with Revlon’s lipgloss in Sunset Peach. It’s a great mix of light pink and orange, a nice departure from typical Valentine’s reds and pinks.
