The Treehugger Project's "Lonely Tree, Lonely People," at the UN Climate Change Conference.
You have probably seen the amazing work of local artists Agnieska Gradzik and Wiktor Szostalo at the Earth Day Festival, the Tulip Festival, or on the Wash. U. grounds. Their "Treehugger Project," is a series of environmental sculptures woven from twigs, vines and other organic materials, usually vegetal human figures with their arms wrapped around a tree trunk (though their Forest Park Tulip Festival series included a twig-and-vine man climbing up to the high branches to retrieve a twig-and-vine cat). Last December, Agnieska and Wiktor were asked to create three Treehugger installations for the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Poznan, Poland; now, they have been commissioned by the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn to create a major piece for the school's sculpture garden, to be unveiled in June. Other projects in the works include a work for Ontario's Royal Botanical Gardens and installations at schools throughout Uganda. Be sure to check out their beautiful website, which is rich with information and crammed full of fantastic photos of the pieces they've completed across the globe. --Stefene Russell
