Dean Minderman over at St. Louis Jazz Notes reports that jazz is returning to downtown St. Louis. One of his "semi-random data points" is that the St. Louis Jazz Cafe (1500 St. Charles) will have their grand opening this Saturday March 21, with a performance from Erin Bode. He also notes that they have shows posted for the next few weeks, including an appearance by Gaslight Square alumns, Trio Tres Bien. See his post for more.
Also this Saturday, Binge & Purge officially opens two doors down from Apop Records at 2839 Cherokee. Promising "curious arts and modern wonders from all decades, local and worldwide," including "vintage clothing, antique medical equipment, oddities from days of your [sic], or just plain weird items," they're celebrating their first day in business with a party in Firecracker's parking lot, starting at 3 p.m. Catholic Guilt/Maximum Effort's Zeng and Big Muddy Records' Chris will be barbecuing, with music from Trench Foot, Pink Sock, Joe & Mabel, The Ultraviolents, and Bikini Acid. All in all, not bad for the first day of spring in the midst of the worst recession we've had for decades, eh? --Stefene Russell
