It's MetroLink Prom time again! This year (their fourth) they are celebrating Metro's Blue Line, which runs from Shrewsbury to Fairview Heights. The prom is organized by Citizens for Modern Transit, City Affair, and the Transit Riders Union of St. Louis for "lovers of mass transit and formalwear," everywhere. And it's exactly sounds like: a prom on the MetroLink. People put on tuxes and crinoline skirts and corsages and dance inside a Metro car (this year's music is provided by Trotting Bear), followed by an after-party, which happens to be at the Moonrise this year.
Since the theme of the prom is the blue line, the organizers are encouraging everyone to wear blue; and while this is a way to squeeze in another chance to wear pinstripes or dyed silk high heels, the main goal of course is to raise awareness of public transit, and its role in keeping a city vibrant. Also, when is the next time you will be able to get on the Metro in a ball gown or a tiara and not feel weird? Not till next year, Charlie, at the Fifth Annual MetroLink Prom.
So, you have to worry about what to wear. Then you have to worry about buying your Metro pass ($2.75 for two hours...you can get them at the regular ticket dispensers near the tracks). It's pretty easy from there: the group is meeting up at the Forest Park-DeBaliviere MetroLink Station at 7 p.m., crowning a Prom King and Queen at the Shrewsbury station, then riding back to the Skinker stop, where they will disembark, and parade up Delmar (led by a drum line!) to the "Blue Moon Ball."
