Every year, the Campbell House Museum (1508 Locust) decks its halls, celebrating the holiday season with their guests, Victorian-style. This year, decorations will stay up until January 15, 2014.
“You can never have ‘too much’ when it comes to Christmas, right?” asks Assistant Director, Samuel Moore. “That's our mantra when it comes to our Victorian Christmas celebration here at the Campbell House. We celebrate annually with a really elaborate display of wreaths, trees and garland. It's 19th -century holiday extravagance at its finest!”
Though regular tours are available, this year the Campbell House Museum is offering a special opportunity for guests to experience a Victorian Christmas. They will host a Candlelight Open House on Thursday, December 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided at the event. Admission is $10, though it is free for members of the Museum and children under the age of 12.
Moore says of the event, “People can walk through the house, check out the impressive decorations, and also get a taste of the museum's extensive collection of original Victorian furnishings. It's going to be a pretty informal event, just a nice way to spend your Thursday evening before Christmas—bring the kids, bring a special someone, and have a glass of wine.”
Moore adds that reservations are encouraged and can be made by calling the museum at (314) 421-0325.
Campbell House Museum is open Wednesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. for regular tours. Starting January 1, 2014, and continuing through February, Campbell House is open by appointment only. General admission to the museum is $8. Campbell House Members and children aged 12 and under are free.
