Joshua Weinstein, programmer of the brilliant "All Soul, No Borders" on KDHX, is running a very cool series for the next several Sunday nights. The first one aired this weekend, but you can still go to the station's website and stream it so you're all caught up. Here's the skinny:
"Beginning April 26, and running for five consecutive Sundays, Joshua Weinstein will be presenting the acclaimed radio documentary, Tell Me How Long Trane’s Been Gone on 88.1FM in St. Louis and KDHX.org worldwide. Twenty years in the making, this 5-hour audio masterpiece — a thrilling kaleidoscope of rare interviews, reminiscences, music selections and commentary — analyzes and celebrates the creative genius of John Coltrane. First broadcast in 2001, Steve Rowland’s prize-winning Tell Me How Long Trane’s Been Gone is particularly poignant today with the recent loss of many who were interviewed, including the late Max Roach, Dr. Art Davis, Alice Coltrane, Elvin Jones, and Sekou Sundiata. Each of five one-hour segments will air Sundays at 10:30PM(CST) beginning on April 26 and continuing through May 24, during the first hour of All Soul, No Borders."
Josh is the guy who introduced me to Alice Coltrane's beautiful "Journey in Satchidananda," which he sometimes uses to open his show; that was a real gift. This doc, too, is a gift -- and while it's more exciting to listen to the live broadcast on Sunday nights, you can stream the show up to two weeks after it airs, so even busy, lazy or forgetful listeners can catch the series in its entirety. --Stefene Russell
