Jeans: I must have five pairs of jeans, but I always reach for my pair of Luckys. Bag: My old canvas messenger bag. A man purse it may be, but I can’t imagine carrying all my crap in pockets. Sneakers: Santa Cruz Crocs. I bought them at a small shop in Te Anau, New Zealand. I wore them out of the store and as much as possible since. Boutique: UMA and Salt of the Earth on Locust always seem to have the perfect gift and tons to explore for self-indulgence. Eco-friendly store: Home Eco on Macklind Avenue. Terry and Phil keep raising the bar for green businesses. Hairstylist: Derek from Oliver’s Studio, when I can afford him. For the rest of the time—which is pretty often—Rich from A Cut Above the Rest blends good style with solid conversation at a price anyone can appreciate. Shampoo: Aveda has a great line of products; they get so many great scents into their natural products. Moisturizer: L’Oreal does wonders for dark circles under the eyes from hangovers—er, long days at the office. Coffee maker: Alex and Paul from Espresso Mod must have a very stylish one; I seem to support it almost daily. Website: Jetson Green (jetsongreen.com). The site gives regular updates on green living, eco-technology and sustainable housing developments. Restaurant: Niche. Chef Gerard Craft and pastry chef Mathew Rice keep it fresh, local and relatively affordable. Meal at home: As a former short-order cook at a late-night diner, my specialty is breakfast. But I’m vicious at the grill anytime. Local charity: Whats Up Magazine and The Homeless Empowerment Project—because I run it! It’s community media educating readers about homelessness and poverty while putting an honest buck in homeless and at-risk vendors’ pockets. Destination: Prague beckons. I spent time there during college and literally had to beg my way out of the country because I enjoyed myself too much to afford a train ticket. Best-kept secret: Downtown office space. It’s perfect for small businesses to get started, with room to grow.
