If you've missed the prior installments from our guest bloggers, the folks behind the locally produced movie Streetballers, can catch up by readings weeks one, two, and three. We will post updates every Wednesday, leading up to the film's premiere on August 21. --SR
The St. Louis Streetballers presence has been launched… Now it’s time to expand—to the coast, to the web, and to that other metropolis in the great state of Missouri.
This week, our focus has shifted to cyberspace, specifically to social networking, the new wild, partially untapped frontier of film promotion. The newly updated website is up and running (where you will find links to buy tickets for screenings at Wehrenberg’s Ronnie’s 20 Cine and Landmark’s Tivoli Theatre), and it’s linked with all social-networking communities: Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and LinkedIn.
We’re also tackling the task of booking confirmations so that Streetballers can premiere in other major American markets, Los Angeles being our next city. We’ve begun negotiating with two of Hollywood’s most renowned theatres: Mann’s Chinese Theatre and The ArcLight Theatre. Along with this, our public relations firm, ASA PR, has begun to build awareness of the film in Tinsel Town.
By mixing traditional efforts and a hybrid-self release model, we’re creating a new paradigm for the world of film distribution. After Los Angeles, we plan on meeting the demand for Streetballers in Kansas City, where west-side Mizzou fans are clambering for their opportunity to see ex-Mizzou basketball hero Jimmy McKinney light up the silver-screen like he use to light up the Jayhawks.
It’s all in a week’s work. ——Matthew Krentz, Craig Thomas and Patrick Rooney
