Approximately 150 indie arts and craft vendors will converge on Community Park in O’Fallon, Ill., this weekend for the Strange Folk Festival. The two-day event promises to provide a sampling of all the quirky, handmade goods being made right here in the Midwest. From silver origami necklaces to original art prints, you might just find the perfect gift for that hard-to-please person on your Christmas list.
Kids and adults alike will enjoy activities in the Make Stuff Tent, which is new this year. Among the free projects that participants can make are jump ropes, pin-cushion bottle-cap rings, and even little notebooks. Kids can also play a giant game of Twister or bounce on the “Water Blob,” a big water-filled pillow.
There will also be plenty of local culture to enjoy. During Strange Folk Festival, the O’Fallon Public Library will be hosting Writer’s Block, a meet and greet with 10 local authors. Each day, several authors will be available for book signings. In addition, the event will feature live music by 10 bands, including Bear Hive, Pretty Little Empire, and Bo and the Locomotive.
Strange Folk started eight years ago as an outlet for area crafters. This year’s event will take place from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on September 29 and 30. The O'Fallon Community Park is located at 401 E. 5th Street in O’Fallon. Admission is free.
