In the spirit of both our Editor's Room "Flickr Friday" and Accidental Mysteries, I'm just posting some of my favorite outtakes from USGenWeb's St. Louis Penny Postcards site, where I poached the image above.
I am a firm believer in the fact that having few resources often results in more inspiring results. Would this image above be half as compelling if they had tried to match the colors to life?

This is what Sportsman's Park would have looked like, if it had been built from Legos.
And here's our fair city, looking as pretty and dainty as a box of Easter pastilles.
My favorite penny postcard, though, is the one above. I've never speculated about what the Eads Bridge might look like with the Aurora Borealis shimmering behind it, but it's sort of a nice thing to contemplate. --Stefene Russell
