Maybe I'm afflicted with one of those fictitious health conditions, like Seasonal Affective Disorder, because I'm about to neatly fold all my black and gray and put it away until October. I believe I have finally accepted that, yes, it is spring and my world needs a whole lotta rainbow.
Maybe I've spoken too soon—I do love black. Not because I'm depressed or, as I mentioned before, afflicted with something nefarious and incurable. I just find it easy. What goes with black? Black does. What else goes with black? Grey does! I won't wear white with black unless I actually want to look like I work at The Olive Garden. I will not wear strong color with black—it says I'm scared of color and must "sober" it with a neutral. I don't play fashion games safely like that. Besides, I was around for the neon-con-negro 1980s and it's not a style of vintage fashion I want to revisit with any regularity. I prefer the Yohji Yamamoto '80s but that's a whole 'nutha post.
Then there are mornings, like today, when it has been raining forever and the sun has finally decided to grace us with its divine presence. This is not a black day, this is a tangerine Bonnie Cashin tunic day, worn with Fiorucci red pants and United Nude rainbow sandals. This is a Kristina Klarin wood necklace day. This is Monday and dagnabbit, I'm gonna celebrate.
If my worst internal conflict is going to be over what color I feel like wearing, I would say all this therapy is really paying off.
