Last year, after Jen Rieger and business partner Christopher Rubin de la Borbolla bought Daisy Clover, a women’s boutique in Webster Groves, they made some major changes. “We really wanted to move it forward as a new store,” says Rieger. “We’ve had an interest in fashion and in the St. Louis fashion scene for a number of years.”
So they moved into a new space and renamed the shop The Clover (8150 Big Bend, 314-467-0436, the-clover.com). After dropping the first part of the name, the duo also gave the interior a makeover. “The entire store has a much more contemporary look and feel,” says Rieger. “I would say it is exactly Chris’ and my aesthetic.”
The store is divided into four main focal points, she explains: “the Core, which is wardrobe basics that everybody needs; the Lab, where we bring in some more fashion-forward pieces; Refined, which is more dressy and sophisticated; and Capsule, a small gift area.”
As for the brands, the new owners did carry over some of Daisy Clover’s most popular lines, but also introduced some stylish additions. The clothes are cosmopolitan and high-quality, with denim lines like Henry & Belle ($150-plus), Joe’s ($165-plus), and Citizens of Humanity ($190-plus). You can also find soft sweaters and wraps from Green Dragon ($128) and Quinn ($320), as well as party dresses from Eva Franco’s new Coconino line ($60 to $150).
Among the store’s gift items, Rieger points out A Breath of French Air’s line of bath and body products, which are locally produced. “We have a few independent local artists that are right here in Webster,” she adds. Airy and welcoming, the new boutique fits right into the neighborhood.
