Although we’re certainly not the fashion capital of the world, you might be surprised to learn just how many talented artisans and artists live right here in St. Louis. Many of these creative crafters sell their goods on Etsy.com, the world’s self-proclaimed handmade marketplace.
From 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 28, many of these Etsy sellers will come together at the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis (3750 Washington, 314-535-4660) for the Homegrown Etsy Sale. This free event gives attendees the chance to get to know 32 of St. Louis’ own Etsy sellers. Browse their merchandise while enjoying drinks and live music from KDHX’s John Wendland of the radio show “Memphis to Manchester.” The Lulu’s Local Eatery food truck will also be onsite.
The Etsy sellers in attendance will be selling jewelry, ceramics, soaps and everything in between. You’ll have the opportunity to check out items like Sew Good and Trendy’s eco-friendly handbags, Sprouted Designs’ screen-printed homegoods, and Scarlett Garnet’s line of eclectic jewelry, which is hand-drawn by the artists and cut by independently owned Missouri companies.
The Homegrown Etsy Sale is part of the Contemporary Art Museum’s Homegrown Summer, a season of engaging programs that feature artists, performers and practitioners that have all, at one point or another, called this city home. It is held in conjunction with the Great Rivers Biennial 2012 exhibition, which runs through August 12. More than 800 people attended the museum’s popular Holiday Etsy Sale last December.
A full list of vendors is available on the event website.
