She can show you countless ways to wear a scarf, including how they do it in Europe. She’ll happily educate you on your best color and most flattering fit. She’ll selectively present you with clothes that fit to a tee. (But you never gave her your size, did you?) No, she just knows.
Mary Lu Johnson remembers the days of dressing glamorously. The days when a sales associate was far more than someone who rang you out at the register—she was an advisor, a true stylist. Although times have changed, Mary Lu’s commitment has never wavered.
Mary Lu also recalls dressing young ladies…young ladies who are now women that bring their own children to Macy’s for school clothes or fancy Easter frocks. She affectionately calls these grown women “her girls.”
The savvy locals ask for her by name, or just look for her in store. They know she’ll be delighted to prepare a dressing room and offer an honest and valuable opinion.
Mary Lu has worked at St. Clair Square for 18 years. She is retiring in July. The metro east will definitely miss her, but we’ll never forget Mary Lu’s timeless style advice and fashionable demeanor.
