Below are some of the photos I promised from last Friday's opening at Fort Gondo for Leuken/Kraft/Yang show, the second installment of beverlyear. (For more on that exhibit series, go here.) As noted, I wasn't able to make it down to take these myself, so kind thanks to Brittany Leuken and Galen Gondolfi for sending them to us. If you missed the opening, there is still time to see the show, which runs through February 28.
When I look at exhibit reception photos, it always makes me want to go out and see art. Hopefully the photos below have the same effect on you, because there are a ton of shows opening tomorrow. One that I've been excited to see is Jerstin Crosby's "In the Manner of Smoke," at Good Citizen Gallery on Gravois, particularly the "Goth Seinfeld" video stuff, as well as the billboard, which has a Monkey Wrench Gang subtext. There are also two shows opening at Duane Reed that I'm wanting to see: "The Empty Globe," a collaboration between photographer Michael Eastman and archeologist Robert Mazrim, which documents the contents of the old Globe Drug warehouse downtown; and "New Work," by singular glass artist Jiyong Lee, who was profiled by Byron Kerman in The Current. (Sorry! No link to drop in there...but look for our newish issue, with pizza on the cover). If you have the stamina, there are also receptions scheduled at two other galleries that have opened in the pat year or so, Concrete Ocean on South Jefferson and Metropolitan Gallery on Locust, that I'm hoping check out before the snow melts. --Stefene Russell
