On Tuesday, October 22, the Peabody Opera House hosted a party to kick off its Broadway season, inviting subscribers and season ticket holders to enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres before sitting down with St. Louis author Ridley Pearson.
Pearson’s novel (co-written by Dave Barry), Peter and the Starcatchers (2004) was adapted for the stage, back in 2009, with a very slight name change—Peter and the Starcatcher. The play, which is “a grownups prequel to Peter Pan”, ran on Broadway from April 2012 to January 2013, won 5 Tony Awards, and is now touring the country, capturing audience’s hearts from Seattle to Pittsburgh—and of course, the hearts of St. Louisans, too.
Pearson was inspired to write his Starcatchers series about 11 years ago. While reading Peter Pan to his young daughter, she asked the simple question, “How did Peter meet Captain Hook?” and the rest is history.
Peter and the Starcatcher (the play) will be performed at the Peabody from March 7-9, 2014, as the third show of their Broadway season.
Godspell arrives first (Nov. 15-17), followed by Man of La Mancha (Feb. 7-9), then Starcatcher, Ghost (March 25-30) and finally the Blue Man Group (April 25-27), to wrap up the season.
