In the midst of all this terrible, horrible, no good, very bad news about the economy, here's a bright twinkly development: instead of another shop closing, or another chain going bankrupt, I'm pleased as punch to report that there is a new gallery opening in South City. Good Citizen Gallery (2247 Gravois, 314-348-4587, goodcitizenstl.com) is open Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. or by appointment.
The descrip, in their words:
Good Citizen Gallery is a newly renovated space in south city near the intersection of Gravois Avenue and Jefferson Avenue. The Gallery is dedicated to showcasing contemporary artists working in a variety of styles and mediums. The gallery is excited to present work in both traditional and non-traditional formats, which tackle a variety of concepts and perspectives.
Their first show, "Approved," opens December 5 and runs through January 3, with an opening reception on the 5th from 6-10 p.m., and features work by Josh Avery, Barb Bondy, John Cross, Katherine Fields,
Ron Fondaw, Robert Goetz, Amanda Gray-Swain, Remy Hanemann, Andrew James, Mark Jeffrey, Khara Koffel, Noah Kirby, Elizabeth Kronfield, Grahame Lynch, Keny Marshall, Carin Mincemoyer, Heather Muise, Alison Ouellette-Kirby and Matthew Wicker. Their website's still under construction, but you'll find it here. —Stefene Russell
