For those still feeling exhausted from the springing-forward of Daylight Savings, not to mention the rainy weekend, here is a homeopathic dose of sunny Austin, in the form of a YouTube clip, of a SXSW performance by New Orleans musician George Stathakula, represented by local label INK Records.
Keeping with the New Orleans theme, we skip over to Big Bridge webzine, who's latest issue is the "NOLA Issue." They have other stuff in the works, though; if you are a poet, or know one, please read this missive from St. Louis poet Jason Braun (of Jason and the Beast):
"Big Bridge announces a call for submissions from Jason Braun for THE FUSION, a guest edit anthology he is doing for the 2011 Big Bridge issue. Jason says, "We want poems that work on the page and on the stage. Specifically we’re trying to weave a tapestry of Beat Poets, Slam Poets, Black Arts Poets and Hip Hop Poets. We’re looking for poets from those movements and peripheral to them, as well as poets inspired by any and all of those movements. We're working to show the similarities of these movements as well as celebrate the cultural and individual differences. Please send three poems, a photo, and
short bio to: jason.lee.braun@gmail.com."
And, finally, just for the heck of it, I'm going to throw in a link to this little gem from the Prelinger Archives. Because, well, it ties together these two news bits, and I never pass up an opportunity to link to the Prelinger Archives. Enjoy Scenic New Orleans. --Stefene Russell
