Listening to Wild Nothing's first full-length album, Gemini, is like being time-warped back to a teenager's bedroom in the mid-'80s. The album is defined by lightly handled synth, bells and distortion, topped with longingly intoned lyrics—think listening to the Smiths while half-asleep.
Wild Nothing is the moniker chosen by Jack Tatum, who is the only person who appears on the album, making good use of loops. On tours, however, the band appears in a five person incarnation, bringing an urgency to their live show which is lacking on the record.
No self-respecting indie kid would be caught dead at a show without a solid grasp on the band's lyrics. Here are five standout tracks from Wild Nothing's releases to get you up to speed.
"Nowhere"
"Paradise"
Note: Wild Nothing is stepping into the line-up as We Are Scientists was forced to bow out due to health concerns.
