The news just keeps rolling out of Left Bank Books: not only will Bookfest host one of Sherman Alexie's few remaining appearances this year, but the bookstore has just announced that Al Franken—Minnesota Senator, Saturday Night Live alum, author of Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them—is making a stop in St. Louis.
Franken will be here August 12 at 7 p.m. to talk about, read from, and sign his new book, Giant of the Senate at The Ethical Society of St. Louis (9001 Clayton). Tickets are $35 and include a copy of the book. Which, according to the book wonks, is a delightful read (and not just for the political wonks). "We who haven’t given up on government are always trying to learn more about Congress and why it has so much trouble today doing its work of passing budgets and overseeing the executive branch," Repps Hudson wrote in his review for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "With a lot of sly humor and many wry and informative footnotes, Franken tells us." Publisher's Weekly loved it too: "Franken is quite a raconteur, and he tells the story of his remarkable life and times with a sense of humor that is always irreverent and often self-deprecating."
And here's the also-delightful book trailer:
You can buy tickets now at left-bank.com/franken; copies of the book are available now at Left Bank if you want to buy your copy before the event.
