The Lemp Arts Center, in partnership with Wash. U., is sponsoring a very cool program, "Orchestrating Diversity," to support young inner-city musicians; they are holding a benefit to raise funds for the program (you can get more info, and buy a ticket at this link.)
Here's more info from the Lemp itself:
"Greetings all!
It's been very exciting watching Orchestrating Diversity pull together - growing from a concept to a reality. We have been putting much hard work into this project, so with much joy I'd like to invite you all to learn more about it. I have finished the informational brochure on the project. This is hosted both for download & online viewing at the following site:

This program will be a real privilege to the students who get admitted. If you know someone whom you think might benefit, please point them our way, or show them to the above website where they can apply online.

I say: "Right!" Especially because the jazz and classical shows are far less ubiquitous in the summertime; better get your fill now. And supporting young jazz and classical musicians now means there may come a day when jazz and classical concerts are as plentiful during the warm months as they are in the fall and winter. --Stefene Russell
