Getborn
Looks like Joe Sulier & Co. tapped Firecracker Press for one of their Quicksilver Specials (silver ink on black paper, priced to beat Kinko's and therefore appeal to band kids making gig flyers) for the last Get Born reading poster. A collector's item if ever there is one, I say. If you're not familiar, Get Born is/was a local poetry reading series that began in 2007 (I'm getting all nostalgic ... I wrote them up not long after they started). They are young guys who tapped into the spirit of the Beats, as well as 1980s punk rock, clattering out poems on manual typewriters, releasing music and poetry on cassette tapes, and generally infusing the local poetry scene with more energy than it had seen in years. The main readers tonight are the core of the Get Born crew, including Brock Walker, Jim Swill, Joseph Sulier, Joe Wetteroth, Ken Brown and Mathieu Paul. There are also three bands on the bill, so the show starts at 7pm -- "Sharp!" There are five open slots for those who might want to read, though I suspect you'll need to be there far earlier than 7pm to nab a spot. The reading is at Duff's (392 N. Euclid) in the Central West End, so if you're not taking the Metro, that means showing up even earlier if you want to find a reasonable parking spot. --Stefene Russell
