After 60 years, the classic tale of fairy godmothers, pumpkin carriages, glass slippers and chatty mice still hasn’t gone out of style. Disney’s Cinderella has stolen the spotlight at the Skip Viragh Center for the Arts at Chaminade College Preparatory School (425 S. Lindbergh) as part of Stages St. Louis’ Theatre for Young Audiences.
But the story of the neglected girl who is swept away by Prince Charming one enchanted night isn’t just for children. Cinderella, being one of the first princess stories that started it all, has been a favorite for generations, and Stages’ production of the story will feature some familiar faces.
Local actress Becca Andrews, a graduate of Webster University’s Conservatory of Theatre Arts, who some might recognize from the 2011 Stages production of “A Chorus Line,” will star as Cinderella. Her Prince Charming will be played by Joe Grandy, last seen in Stages’ rendition of “My One and Only” in 2012.
Disney's Cinderella, playing now through June 30, is one of 124 scheduled performances in Stages St. Louis’ 27th season, from May to October. Funded in part by the Arts and Education Council and the Missouri Arts Council, the nonprofit theatre company aims to preserve and advance musical theatre through performance and education.
Tickets range from $16 to $22 and can be purchased at any of Stages’ three box offices (1023 Chesterfield Parkway East, The Robert G. Reim Theatre in Kirkwood or the Skip Viragh Center for The Arts at 425 S. Lindbergh). For more information or to purchase tickets in advance, visit www.stagesstlouis.org.
The show will play daily Wednesday through Sunday at 11 a.m. with an evening showing at 7 p.m. on Friday.
