I love taking classic American sportswear and adding a twist, and there’s no better hue to play with than the quintessential all-American color: navy. It’s just as chic as basic black, but adds decidedly more pizzazz. Nearly any color can be combined with navy, but it goes exceptionally well with pink, khaki, and green.
Navy is also a great option when experimenting with mixing prints. The most obvious and perhaps versatile pattern is a classic stripe, but polka dots are coming in at a close second (see skirt, $89.50, Banana Republic). Street style bloggers have even recently upped the ante by pairing the versatile hue with a myriad of animal prints, most notably leopard.
If you’re interested in incorporating navy into your wardrobe, but don’t have the time (or budget) for a full-on closet overhaul, consider the three following options:
Aruba Blue Nail Polish by Essie ($8, Ulta): A shiny, ultra-glam navy tone for your nails
Striped Scarf ($14.94, Old Navy): An affordable take on a Hollywood staple
Saint Grace Maxi Dress ($95, Mezzanine): A lot of bang for your buck, this dress is a great option for cooler weather
