Cockeyed web
“Cockeyed” follows the frenzied journey of one man's attempt to find the woman of his dreams. Phil, an average guy with an average job, falls madly in love with Sophia, the boss's beautiful secretary. The only problem - she can't see him. Is Phil caught in some kind of parallel universe? Does Phil really exist or is he a figment of a co-worker's imagination? Is Phil's degree in Philosophy the problem? It’s an outrageous existential farce of modern love, zany office politics and how we go through life not seeing what is literally right under our noses.
Thus reads the thumbnail description of William Missouri Downs' Cockeyed, which was developed and produced though HotCity Theatre's GreenHouse Series; the show continues its run tonight at the Kranzberg Arts Center. Word came this week that Cockeyed has been acquired by the esteemed New York publisher Samuel French, a company that can currently claim a number of big shows on Broadway, including Joe Turner's Come and Gone, Chicago, Blithe Spirit and The Philanthropist. Not too shabby! One to catch before it closes, for sure.

And this late-breaking snippet: George Yeh, Classical Music Director of KWUR, will be interviewing Canadian violinist Angele Dubeau tomorrow, (May 23) at around 1 p.m. George says, "She runs an 'all-girl band,' La Pieta," whose latest release, Philip Glass: Portrait, is just as it sounds: a Philip Glass cover album. --Stefene Russell
