The only reason I was happy to reach the end of a wonderful Labor Day weekend was the promise of an hour of decadent television. I'm beginning to think Monday nights were created for good wine and Gossip Girl. The season's premiere did not disappoint in the drama or fashion departments. GG's costume designer, Eric Daman is a master at mixing it up...he honed his skills working as an assistant to Pat Field, the uber-stylist of the ultimate fashion addiction, Sex & the City. Eric is giving his former boss a run for the money in terms of being the best in the biz. They both treat the fashion as a character in itself, but Eric makes it more accessible. Yes, we all loved Carrie's wardrobe, but who can work a Philip Treacy pale green butterfly hat into real life?? SATC was in essence a runway show and GG is the translation to street (albeit in a very nice neighborhood). Last night's premiere was highlighted with a White Party in the Hamptons...after a summer at the beach, the kids needed a last hurrah before heading back to the stress of private school in Manhattan (all the sex and drugs can make it difficult for a teenager to study). Blair was true to character in a Marc by Marc Jacobs short dress with scalloped detailing and Serena looked like a Grecian goddess in a jersey floor-length gown. Yes, we saw the usual suspects on the girls...Chloe, Chanel, Ferragamo, DVF, but I was also happy to see Alice + Olivia, Yaya Affolo (the gorgeous silver tunic Serena had on at the beach) and Thread Social. Can't wait until next Monday!
