Although there have been a ton of amazing designer collaborations through the past few years, some have left much to be desired. Sometimes quality is sacrificed for lower prices, and it shows in the clothing. Like many other women who are into fashion, I have been known to get caught up in the hype and the impending lure of a good deal. On more than one occasion I’ve hit up a local retailer first thing in the morning, expecting to drop major coin, but leaving empty handed and a bit disappointed. Do I expect a high-end feel at a fraction of the price? I suppose I do.
Giambattista Valli for Macy’s offers much hope to those of us that seek out the designer look for less. Most importantly, the label seems to have pleasingly stuck to its essential design aesthetic. Mixing leopard on leopard was once considered a fashion faux-pas, but Giambattista Valli does it so well that even the timid are giving the dual-leopard trend a try. Thankfully, the Macy’s collection will feature a few fabulous feline pieces for purchase, such as the one pictured above (left, $109).
Normally in October, a maxi dress is not on my must-have list, however I might make an exception for this lovely wine-colored version with ultra-feminine detailing (middle, $129). This would be a great Florida dress for any Midwestern lady lucky enough to be hitting the beach this winter, or for a colder climate, a perfect accompaniment to a black leather jacket.
The black ruffled organza skirt (right, $99) has New Year’s Eve written all over it and would be fabulous with a fitted white shell and loads of sparkly baubles. I’ll own this one for sure! This versatile piece once again restores my faith in the designer collaboration, and already has me thinking about the next great designer collaboration. Rumor is Donatella Versace has something in the works, supposedly with a vintage Versace vibe—I’ll keep you updated!
