One of the first things I noticed after moving to St. Louis was that the bands here had great names: Fragile Porcelain Mice, Tomorrow's Cavemen, Tight Pants Syndrome, Say Panther, Bitch Slap Barbie. (This as opposed to the West Coast, where most of the local bands are jam bands, and ... with no disrespect to jam bands, it seems they focus more on their guitar fretting than fretting over names. No crime, just an observation.)
I've always liked Gentleman Auction House's name as well as their sound. This morning on the way to work, as Darren Snow played one of their tunes on Rocket 88, I was reminded how much I like their sound. Darren hasn't posted his songlist yet, so I can't give you the title, but you can check here later for that and hear the tune itself via the streamed version of the show. GAH are playing a KDHX-sponsored show tomorrow night at the Bluebird, along with Louisville psychedelia outfit Wax Fang and Stillwater's own white-suited synaesthetes, Colourmusic. A grand deal even if you're under 21 and get a $2 surcharge slapped onto the basic $8 cover. The show, like most Bluebird shows, begins at 8. —Stefene Russell
