On February 28, many of Crestwood Court’s ArtSpace shops, established in 2009 with the Regional Arts Commission of St. Louis, will close their doors to make way for mall redevelopment. Check out these shops during the month of February for amazing deals on some very unique items.
Pashmina Saint Louis IX (436 Crestwood Plaza, 314-968-5064), a specialty shop that sells true pashmina and pashmina-style items, will be offering discounts of 20 to 40 percent during the next few weeks. The store sells a wide variety of colorful wraps, shawls, and scarves, including true pashminas from Nepal that are so delicate they must be made by hand. The owners hope to open a new store in a few years, but until then they will appear at monthly events around town. “We really love this store, but all good things come to an end,” says owner Patricia Christy, who opened the store at Crestwood Court with co-owner Hope Walker in 2009.
The nearby Art Coop (452 Crestwood Plaza, 314-517-8240) is also preparing to close by offering discounts of 15 to 20 percent. The shop carries an array of fine art and jewelry, much of which is made by artists Barbara Otterson and Joyce Burk Lubinski. Otterson creates her own molds and pours liquid silver to make some stunning jewelry, and Lubinski crafts necklaces and earrings from the finest semiprecious gemstones and Swarovski crystals. At the moment, the Art Coop does not have plans for a new location, although some of the artists also sell their work online.
Those interested in eclectic jewelry, clothing, and art may also want to visit Loopie’s Market (20 Crestwood Plaza, 314-482-7818). The store, which features the arts and crafts of more than 40 local artists, plans to hold a going-away event on Friday, February 3 at 7 p.m. There will be a raffle, refreshments, and a chance to meet the artists. In the future, Loopie’s Market hopes to find a location on Cherokee Street from which to peddle their quirky wares.
