Any true lover of fashion has known the woes of falling in love with a sold-out or unattainable item. Whether the item is totally out of your budget or simply “out of stock,” the pain is the same. In modern society, with world-wide (and discounted) shopping at your fingertips, how is it possible that some items are still out of reach?
My “Most Wanted” list is relatively short, but nonetheless a challenge.
It starts with the Cross-body Fringe Bag by Versace. This amazing bag started out on Net a Porter, and even went on sale at one time. Unfortunately, I didn’t catch wind of it until it was already out of circulation. Just to torture myself, I searched eBay’s completed listings to see if any had ever sold. I found one completed listing that ended just days before I began my search; it had been quickly snatched up for a ridiculously low price by some lucky lady with an eye for hippie-chic—DANG!
After a month or two of half-hearted and hopeless Google searches, I was starting to get over the bag. It wasn’t that great after all, and I really wasn’t that into boho anyway…and then I saw it…on one of my favorite shows no less ("Single Ladies," when Stacey dash was still on). The bag only made a brief guest appearance, but it was magnificent. I had never actually seen the bag in motion—when the actress moved, the bag moved with her, and the colorful fringe swayed back and forth while somehow keeping its artful structure. I was smitten all over again, and on a mission. Sadly, my dream bag still hasn’t surfaced. After a whole year, the Versace Cross-body Fringe Bag still eludes me…Maybe one day?
My latest unattainable obsession is the Clements Maxi Dress in Midnight. I discovered the chic Australian boutique that carries the dress online and was pleased to find that they’ll ship to the states. Unfortunately, by the time I went to purchase the dress it was “out of stock.” I emailed the boutique and posted on their facebook wall…no dice, the dress was truly gone for good. As with most things, now that I can’t have it, I want it even more. I’ve convinced this dress would make me look 20 pounds thinner and a lot more stylish. If Holly Golightly were roaming the streets today, I imagine this is what she might wear. My only hope is that the Australian boutique that carries the dress may decide to re-stock.
Finally, topping my “most wanted” list, and (thankfully) still attainable is the Monica Rose Number Bracelet sold locally at Blush Boutique (110 N. Clay, 314-965-4411). I’ve had my eye on this cute little bauble for a while now, and if history has taught me anything, it’s that I need to pick one up…NOW!
