New York and London Fashion Weeks were full of fresh faces, retro do’s, and even blue eye shadow—yes, blue eye shadow. So what beauty trends should you follow this spring and which ones should you forget faster than Snooki at Fashion Week? Here are some of my favorite makeup trends you won’t want to miss next spring.
1. Case of the Blues
Add a pop of color to your otherwise minimally made-up face. A touch of blue eye shadow, as seen at the Jenny Packham show at New York Fashion Week, is a fun take on an old trend.
2. Vamp It Up
Who says pale skin and dark lips is reserved for the winter? Burberry Prorsum showcased models in pale, almost bare faces and ravishing red lips. It’s a look I think every olive-toned beauty should try.
3. Casual Crimp
There might not have been any disco balls or leisure suits at Moschino Cheap & Chic’s show at London Fashion Week, but that doesn’t mean there was any shortage of 70’s beauty inspiration. Crimped locks made a comeback for spring at both Moschino in London and Timo Weiland in New York. Whatever side of the pond you happen to be on this spring, it’s a safe bet crimps will be sure to keep you on-trend.
4. Barely There
This may have been one of my favorite beauty trends of the season. At Bottega Veneta and Diane Von Furstenburg, barely-there makeup with just a touch of color on the cheeks made for a brilliant display of natural beauty. Don’t be afraid to taper it down next season with a less-is-more approach to makeup application.
5. Asian Sensation
Not only was Asian-inspired makeup center stage at Pucci, the hair was almost an homage to Eastern hair aesthetics. Stick-straight hair was embellished with ivory hairpins carved with dragon motifs. An Asain influence that wasn’t lost in translation, this hair trend is sure to take off this spring thanks to its easy-to-replicate simplicity.
