Newsweek
Lately I’ve been hearing a lot of buzz about the future first lady’s wardrobe…
“Why doesn’t she hire a stylist?”
“Why in the world did she wear that black and red dress on election night?” (according to a poll from USA Today, 65% of 10,000 readers felt Mrs. Obama “had an off day” in terms of style on Nov. 6th).
“Why would she wear an ordinary J. Crew outfit when going on the 'Tonight Show with Jay Leno?'”
I have to say, I love what she’s wearing and think she looks fabulous. She is not CONSUMED with fashion (thank God!), but up to something more important...standing by her man during a pivotal time in history.
If she were busy pulling looks off the runways of Balenciaga, Christian Dior and the like, I would wonder where her head is. Not to say she doesn’t look put together and stylish…she does so in a very whimsical and approachable way…wearing a $50 Carolee pearl necklace on the cover of Newsweek (see above) and a $150 Donna Ricco shift dress on ‘The View’. I think this is a smart approach to fashion considering the current state of the economy.
Many folks in America are longing for the next Jackie O, but let’s allow Mrs. O to shine on her own, which I’m sure she will do at the upcoming Inaugural Ball.
