Poet and Wash. U. creative writing professor Carl Phillips has been named as the new judge for Yale University Press' Series of Younger Poets, succeeding Louise Glück. The series, which has been in existence since 1919, celebrates the work of the best up-and-coming poets under the age of 40. To say they have an impressive track record is an understatement--they published the first books of John Ashberry and Muriel Rukeyser, among others. The judges' ranks have included superlative poets too, including Stanley Kunitz, W.S. Merwin, James Merrill and W.H. Auden. Phillips will make his first pick this year, to be announced in spring of 2011. --Stefene Russell
