Very shortly (at 11 a.m. to be exact), Sarah’s Cake Stop—a cupcake wagon, of sorts—will open in front of the Contemporary Art Museum–St. Louis. Until 2 p.m., you can pick from these flavors: “Carrot Cake, Mom’s Traditional, Happy Day, Snack Cake, Strawberry Cheesecake, Salted Caramel, Chocolate Cookie, and Reese’s Brownies.” (Though I should probably give some sort of caveat there, like “while supplies last.”) On Thursday, March 3, CAMSTL hosts a free “Front Room Happy Hour,” from 5–7 p.m., with complimentary beer and wine. There will also be a curator’s talk about the current Front Room show, which features works by Thea Djordjadze & George Maciunas. By the by, this is an ongoing thing, which happens every first Thursday of the month.

On Sunday, March 6 at 10 a.m., Werhenberg’s Galaxy 14 Cinema in Chesterfield continues its series of broadcasts of ballet performances, with the Bolshoi Ballet performing the Don Quixote Ballet live from Moscow. This is the fifth broadcast, with four more scheduled through July. The $12 admission is more than your average movie ticket, but actually about half the price of the live broadcasts from the Metropolitan Opera that have been popping up around town; they have group discounts available for groups of 10 or more, and you can buy tickets online. It's not just an affordable way to go see ballet, it's a chance to see high culture while wearing your parka and sneakers and eating popcorn.

After the recession hit, the Scott Joplin House drastically cut down its programming, and I haven’t seen an event scheduled there in a while. It’s a shame, because there’s hardly anywhere to hear live ragtime these days (it'spretty much just once a month at Dressel’s), and it was St. Louis’ huge contribution to the American canon of popular music. Which is a reason to go see this concert—also on Sunday, March 6—showcasing the winners of the Scott Joplin Ragtime Competition. The concert starts at 2:30 p.m., with performances by students as well as ragtime experts Stephanie Trick and Barry Morgan. The concert is followed by a little reception, and is free.
