As I often explain here, I am the gal who crunches together the calendar each month. Even though all that typing fatigues the wrists, it's cool because I get an ant-farm view of the art scene, and have the privilege of watching it change and evolve. So I've come to feel really protective of some of the smaller, quieter organizations around town that just sorta do their thing and do it well. The Arianna String Quartet is one of these quiet organizations. So I was thrilled to see that they have just landed a recording contract:
"The Arianna String Quartet, the quartet-in-residence at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, has signed an exclusive, long-term recording contract with Centaur Records, North America’s oldest independent classical music label. A significant portion of the contract is devoted to recording the complete quartets of Ludwig van Beethoven, Bela Bartok, Leos Janacek and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s six quartets dedicated to Joseph Haydn. The quartet anticipates that all recording sessions will take place in the Blanche M. Touhill Performing Arts Center at UMSL."
Coolio. Congrats, guys. --Stefene Russell
