The marvelous All Along Press, which Jeannette Cooperman profiled in our November issue, is hosting a benefit tonight. If you've stopped into Elysia Mann and Steven Brien's Cherokee letterpress/bookbinding studio, you may've seen their very clever bicycle-powered printing press, or their beautifully wrought artworks; if not, this is a grand time to introduce yourself to their work.
Here's all the details, straight from Elysia:
"Please join us Friday night for an Art & Music Benefit Show in support of All Along Press.
All Along Press is Saint Louis' only collective print shop located in the historic Cherokee neighborhood, home of a growing alternative art district. Our equipment and supplies are offered at low cost to the neighborhood and Saint Louis community in an effort to foster creative expression and to encourage a DIY ethic. The collective is raising funds in order to continue to offer classes and free workshops in letterpress, screen printing, and fine art printmaking.
Join us for a night of folk and country music by Theodore (voted 2008's Best Alternative Country Band by the RFT), The Red-Headed Strangers, and Suzie Gilbert: all local musicians who share our dedication to the arts in St. Louis. We will also be showcasing recent work by Cameron Fuller, Travis Russell, Matty Kleinberg, Tom Reed, and members of the collective to be raffled off the night of the concert. Also being raffled are STL-STyLe's new "Cherokee People" designs- a must have!"
Where: Tin Ceiling Theatre, 3157 Cherokee Street
When: 8pm
How much: $7 at the door
And if you can't make it tonight ... consider stopping by their Etsy page and getting a healthy start on shopping for wintertime presents, whatever your tradition happens to be. —Stefene Russell
