October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual campaign aimed at increasing awareness of the disease, providing educational resources and encouraging the creation of early detection plans. Throughout the month, many local retailers are offering limited-edition items at their stores, or via their online presence, and donating a portion of the proceeds to various breast cancer research and support organizations. We shopped and discovered an array of pink-tastic ways you can show your support!
Charitable and chic! Tory Burch will donate 20 percent of the purchase of the York Buckle Tote ($295.00) and other exclusive styles in a capsule collection to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. (Tory Burch, Plaza Frontenac 314-993-2819.)
Suit up in a Breast Cancer Awareness bow tie or tie from Vineyard Vines. The store is donating 30 percent of the proceeds from their Think Pink Collection to the Breast Cancer Alliance. (Vineyard Vines, Plaza Frontenac 314-993-3400.)
Being charitable can be so delicious! Companion will give Susan G. Komen St. Louis $0.50 for every 4-pack of their Bavarian Pretzels sold in local grocery stores this October. (Sold at Companion Cafes, Schnucks, Dierbergs and Straubs locations.)
Show your support on the court with the Wilson Hope Lite Tennis Racquet ($70.00), featuring Diamond Edge Design for lightweight power and maneuverability. Wilson Sporting Goods donates $250,000 annually to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. (Order at Racketman in Des Peres 314-567-5772 or Chesterfield 636-449-1052.)
Satisfy your sweet tooth and your desire to support a great cause. The Hope Cupcake from The Cup is a delicious mix of French vanilla and strawberry marbled cake topped with pink sprinkles and vanilla buttercream. Proceeds benefit local breast cancer awareness organizations. (The Cup, St. Louis 314-367-6111 and Chesterfield 636-536-2287.)
In support of Breast Cancer Awareness, Jo Malone will donate $45,000 to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation in 2015. Shop her fresh, unexpected collection of lotions, candles and fragrances such as Red Roses Cologne ($65.00 for 30 ml). (At Neiman Marcus 314-567-9811 and Saks Fifth Avenue 314-567-9200, both in Plaza Frontenac.)
Little gestures can make a big difference for those who are battling breast cancer. Encourage them with a card from the Pink Inspiration Collection at Papyrus. A donation of $0.25 will be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation for each card sold (from $5.95 - $7.95). (Papyrus, St. Louis Galleria 314-721-3208.)
Shoot hoops in comfort and style with Nike Hyper Elite Kay Yow Basketball Crew Socks ($20.00). Sales of these socks support Coach Kay Yow and the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund. (Dick’s Sporting Goods, Des Peres 314-649-1400 and Chesterfield 636-536-3718.)
Bake with flair while showing you care with the 10-speed Raspberry Ice Artisan Stand Mixer from Kitchen Aid ($399.95). Kitchen Aid will donate $450,000 to Susan G. Komen in 2015. (Order from Sur La Table, Plaza Frontenac 314-993-0566.)
Ward off the chill of October days with the Pink Ribbon infinity scarf ($17.99). One dollar from each scarf sold is earmarked for Breast Cancer Research. (Sold at Target stores in Brentwood, Town & Country, Kirkwood, Ballwin.)
