Thanks to the support of a three-year grant from the Whitaker Foundation, The Sheldon will bring the best music from around the globe directly to St. Louis during the Whitaker World Music Concerts. The series was created to better connect our world and community, deepening listeners’ understanding and appreciation of world cultures through the power of music. This year’s series features world-class musicians from South America, Africa, and Ireland.

Charismatic Venezuelan singer Nella effortlessly blends contemporary Latin music with the country’s rich folkloric roots. A graduate of the Berklee College of Music, Nella has made a name for herself on the international music scene, with sold-out concerts in New York, Miami, and London, as well as performances with Jennifer Lopez, Luis Enrique, and Susana Baca.

Angélique Kidjo | Friday, February 14, 2020 at 8 p.m.
Three-time Grammy winner Angélique Kidjo is a global superstar who has recorded 13 albums and performed at top venues around the world. Born in Benin, Kidjo and her band will celebrate the electrifying rhythms, vocals, and sounds of Africa, with music from Kidjo’s storied career, including music from her two most recent projects: a celebration of the great Celia Cruz and music from her reimagining of the Talking Heads’ Remain in Light album.

Acclaimed Irish bands Danú and Goitse will both perform their only U.S. double bill at The Sheldon. Embarking on their 25th anniversary tour, Danú’s thrilling solos and heartfelt vocals celebrate traditional Irish culture. Goitse (pronounced “go-witcha”) is one of Ireland’s most popular live bands; the award-winning group is a leader in a new generation of traditional Irish ensembles.
