Are design studios the next trend in home remodeling?

Homeowners are always on the hunt for what’s hot and haute in home design. With recent supply-chain shortages in products and materials, however, could the next trend in the design and building industries be less about the design itself and more about the way that homeowners work with designers?
With this in mind, Mosby Building Arts recently opened The Mosby Studio at 115 W. Argonne in downtown Kirkwood.
“The Mosby Studio is a destination for conversation,” says Mosby Building Arts president Mark McClanahan. “We wanted a creative space that sparks the homeowner’s vision. Instead of bringing them to a showroom of pre-selected products, we want to start with their ideas and bring the products to them.”

The space is intended for sharing ideas and inspiration, meeting with designers to dream and plan together, and as a place where homeowners go for a curated remodeling experience.
“There’s a lot of frustration in the renovation process for homeowners,” says McClanahan, who notes that the construction industry regularly lands among the Better Business Bureau’s top three industries for complaints. “It’s difficult for consumers to navigate the industry. There’s an extreme demand for home remodeling right now, and that’s putting a strain on every part of the process. We want to do what we can to make it easier for the homeowner, and we believe The Mosby Studio helps make things more visible and accessible to our clients.”
Mosby plans to open more Mosby Studios throughout the central corridor and farther west. “We want to be closer to our clients, in the city and county, where they have quick access to us instead of having to drive to an industrial park,” says McClanahan. “Visiting their homes and seeing how they live is an important early step in our process, so being where they are is key.”
