With so much uncertainty about what the coming months hold for students across the St. Louis area, Kiddie Academy of Chesterfield is hoping to ease parents' burden by offering in-person kindergarten beginning August 24.
The Chesterfield location is one of several Kiddie Academy locations across the country offering care and education for infants through age 12. The school's accredited kindergarten curriculum hones in on children’s natural curiosity and is designed to prepare children academically and emotionally to succeed in elementary school. It includes basic writing and print concepts, microscope and X-ray assignments, social studies topics such as global cultures and how voting works, and more. There’s also an emphasis on motor development and character-building.
Kiddie Academy of Chesterfield recognizes that kindergarten is one of the most essential years for children in developing everything from cognitive abilities to fine motor skills. So they're enhancing their health protocols to be able to keep students safe. Changes include using a hospital-grade air purifier, twice-a-day temperature checks, and rigorous hand-washing standards that align with CDC guidelines. The class sizes are also small, with a maximum of 16 students in each classroom.
The importance of early childhood education is no secret, and it has been an increasingly popular talking point in recent years. A widely cited 2010 study from Harvard economist Raj Chetty found that students who complete kindergarten earn more as adults—about an extra $100 annually by age 27 for every percentile they had moved up the test-score distribution over the course of kindergarten, according to The New York Times. The National Education Association also frequently advocates for the importance of high-quality early education. In its essay “Why We Care About the K in K-12,” NEA partners cite a concern from educators that too many children enter first grade unfairly disadvantaged and that early childhood education will help children enter formal schooling more eager to learn and ready to succeed.
The staff at Kiddie Academy is committed to providing a safe, quality option for young learners. Enrollment for the fall semester is now open.
