A proposed law that would put the kibosh on non-licensed Segway use on Forest Park bike paths kicked up some controversy in February. The Science Center already has a Segway tour in place, but any institution that “lawfully occupies a permanent structure” in the park would be eligible for a license. Allow us to make a few suggestions …
- The Muny – It’s time to think bigger and move beyond the stage: Segways would be perfect for the climactic chariot scene in an experiential, park-wide, post-apocalyptic adaptation of the classic Ben-Hur.
- Saint Louis Zoo – Three words: Race the turtles! Put visitors on the pokey motorized pedestals and pit them against the equally sluggish reptiles for a modern-day version of “The Tortoise and the Hare.”
- Missouri Historical Society – What could better follow up a tour of “Flight City,” this summer’s exhibit on the evolution of flight in St. Louis, than a tour of the park on the best example of the devolution of transportation?
